Kannapolis Academies Offers Better Understanding of City Services

The Kannapolis Citizens Academy gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at their government at work. Evening classes are held weekly at various locations during a 9-week period in March and April. Class topics include: Setting the Stage an Overview of City Government; Finance Department; Public Works &Water Treatment; Planning & Zoning; Police Department; Parks & Recreation; Fire Department; and Economic Development.
If you are interested in participating in the Spring 2015 Citizen Academy Program, submit a completed application to Elizabeth Cox at ECox@kannapolisnc.gov or 704-933-7463 (fax) by February 20.
The second opportunity is a more in-depth look into the Kannapolis Police Department will as a participant of the Citizen Police Academy. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer with the department or would just like to know more about how the department functions you will want to sign up for this academy.
The academy classes are interactive and provide you with information on all aspects of the department such as patrol operations, traffic enforcement, defensive driving, firearms, K-9 operations, special operations (SWAT), felony investigations, interaction with the courts, community service programs, etc.
This academy will be held on Thursday nights, 6-9 p.m., from February 19th to April 27th. Complete the application online or pick up a copy at the Kannapolis Police Department. Applications are due by February 9 to Lieutenant Steven B. Belk at the Kannapolis Police Department or email SBelk@kannapolisnc.gov.
