Your Wedding Registry…Things You Should Consider and Things NOT to Forget!

Aug 17, 2015 02:13PM ● By Jason Huddle

Your home reflects your own unique style and makes a personal statement about you as a couple.  Whether you are big-city modern, traditional, country casual or somewhere in between, Dillard’s can help you get the look and style you want.  The wedding registry experts at Dillard’s have extensive knowledge of the newest merchandise and are available to give you “the tour” of the home store and show you the latest trends in home fashions.  They can guide you in making the right decisions for you and your new home.  You can chat with Dillard’s registry experts at the upcoming Carolina Bridal Fair on Sunday, August 30 at Cabarrus Arena in Concord.  In the meantime, here are some things you can keep in mind.

Here are a few things to consider when registering:

How many invitations will be sent out for your events?  The number of guests will help you estimate how many items to register for.  We recommend registering for 2 items per guest invited.  Remember, you will have showers and parties leading up to your big day.  Plus, guests may purchase multiple gifts for you.

Keep an eye on your registry to make sure you always have a nice variety of gift options at varying price points available.  Your guests will appreciate it!  They want to purchase you something you really want and need.  Don’t make them guess because there are not enough items left on your registry.

If you already have some special items you want to incorporate into your new home together, bring a few pieces in when you register.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match dinnerware to create your perfect style.  For example, you can use your Grandmother’s formal dinner plates and accent them with fresh and updated salad plates to create a unique table setting.  Or, you don’t have to choose all of the same pattern dishes….mix it up!

Vary the price range of the items requested.  Don’t forget to include items that might be “group gifts”.  You’ll want everyone to find the perfect gift to give on any budget.

Now is the time to register for everything you will ever need to entertain.   You will never again have this opportunity to create your collection that will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Make sure to register for the entire home including your bedroom and bathroom.  There is no substitute for quality pillows and mattress pads.   There are more towel choices than ever in the marketplace, take the time to choose the right type for your home.

Most couples register 3-6 months prior to the wedding.  However, the right time for you will vary based on your showers and personal preference.   Registering for all the things you are going to need (and want) for your home together is the best way to make gift giving easy for your guests, friends and family.

And, don’t forget to take advantage of Dillard’s completion discount after your wedding!  Most stores offer some sort of completion discount, but the best completion discount is at Dillard’s.  Dillard’s offers their couples 20% off the remaining home, lingerie and cosmetic items left on their registry after the wedding.  This discount is available for 6 months after your big day.  You can come in as many times as you would like during that 6 month period as well.  There are no restrictions!  This fantastic discount, combined with their everyday low pricing, will allow you to purchase items at prices lower than you will ever see again.

They also offer a table top club plan which is a huge advantage during the completion period.  Qualifying purchases are eligible for 24 months interest free when purchased using your Dillard’s card.  Additionally, when you come in to complete your registry you will receive the exclusive Southern Living Comfort Foods cookbook as a gift.  The completion offer at Dillard’s is too good to pass up!

Personal registries are the latest trend with wedding registries!  Personal registries offer the bride and groom the ability to register for lingerie, sleepwear, cosmetics and fragrances.  At Dillard’s you can register for anything in the store, but your “personal” selections will be placed on your personal registry.

What makes your personal registry different from your regular gift registry?  Your personal registry is not viewable and must be requested in store.  This option is perfect for lingerie showers, bachelorette parties, groom parties and more!  Let’s say you are having a lingerie shower.  Your hostess will let the invited guests know you have your personal selections registered at Dillard’s.  The guest requests to see your personal registry in store at any Dillard’s location and an associate will help them select the perfect gift for you based on your preferences.  Personal registries give you the option to register for lingerie without having to worry about who will see your selections.

Of course, there is also the option to make your personal selections viewable by all.  If you would like for your personal selections to print in store and show online when someone searches for your registry, that option is available.  The best part is personal registry selections are eligible for the 20% completion discount after your wedding!  The completion discount applies to home goods as well as personal registry selections.

Dillard’s makes it easy by making your gift preferences available at stores in 29 states, online at , and by calling toll free 800-345-5273.  To make it easy for your guests, Dillard’s offers complimentary invitation enclosure cards.  This is an easy way to let everyone know you are registered at Dillard’s.   Additionally, all registry purchases will receive complimentary gift packaging.
