Kannapolis - The Board of Directors of the Cabarrus County Economic Development Corporation have announced the appointment of Robert (Robby) J. Carney, Jr. as President/CEO effective August 1st. Carney, a native of Hickory, NC and a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Business Administration, has been the Executive Director of the Mooresville-South Iredell Economic Development Corporation since 2010.

According to Scott Lampe, Chairman of the Board of the Cabarrus County Economic Development Corporation, “The EDC started an extensive search for new leadership late last year. Being familiar with our region and Cabarrus County, Robby will be a great asset to our organization.”

In his role as the Executive Director of the Mooresville-South Iredell Economic Development Corporation, Carney announced over $3.2 billion in new projects and created over 8,000 new jobs. Prior to being named the Executive Director of the Mooresville-South Iredell Economic Development Corporation, he was the Existing Industry and Marketing Manager. In addition, he currently serves as the Charlotte Regional Partnership EDAC Chairman and was recognized by the Charlotte Business Journal as the youngest economic development leader in the Charlotte Region.

Carney will replace acting President/CEO Terry Crawford who has been leading the EDC since late last year.   According to Crawford, “Cabarrus County is one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina with exceptional assets.  Robby’s leadership and exceptional record in recruiting new business and industry will be beneficial for our community.”
