Concord, NC -
For decades, cosplayers have ventured to the big cities, such as San Diego, Chicago, L.A. and San Francisco, to dress up and play their favorite fantasy, sci-fi and comic book characters. However, since 2014, ConCarolinas has held a growing comicon right here in Concord, NC. This year it was held at the Embassy Suites & Convention Center from June 4-6, 2016.

The ConCarolinas 2016 event has seen a strong following in the Southeast region, especially with fans in the Carolinas. As expected, the entire floor was teaming with fan favorites, such as R2D2 and C3P0, as well as numerous cosplayers dressed as Deadpool, pirates, Captain Jack Sparrow, plus many more fantasy, sci-fi and comic book characters. Although the budding event doesn't rival the mega-cons, it still features many world-renowned authors and actors as special guests. This year, the panel of honored guests included award-winning and Bram Stoker Lifetime Achievement Award author, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, fan-favorite Star Trek© Deep Space Nine actor, Nana Visitor, and prolific sci-fi and fantasy author, Christie Golden. Another interesting actor guest, Bill Blair, is listed as the world record holder for the "most special-effect make-up characters portrayed in a career" in the Guiness Book of World Records©, and was cast in hundreds of episodes of the many Star Trek television shows, as well as numerous other productions. Charlotte's own special FX make-up artist and former Faceoff© contestant, Gregory Hewitt, performed amazing demonstrations for the event. As an added bonus, both KITT and KARR made an "appearance" from the classic TV series, NightRider©. This is only a small sampling of the many talented people who attended as guests, vendors and attendees.

ConCarolinas 2017 will be returning to the Embassy Suites & Convention Center from June 2-4, 2017. The upcoming guests of honor have already announced. They are Aurelio Voltaire (Music and Artist), Sherrilyn Kenyon (Author), Stephanie Osborn (Author), as well as Clint and Jodi Black (Gaming; Pennacle Entertainment Group). Other special guest is Toni Weisskopf (Science fiction editor; Publisher of Baen Books). Currently, ConCarolinas 2017 is taking applications for guests and panelists, volunteers, dealers/vendors, art show contestants, film contestants, media/press guests, fan groups and community organizers. Click here to find out more about this exciting event.
