Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Annual Meeting, Presents Annual Awards

350 people representing over 100 Cabarrus County businesses attended the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting on Friday, February 10 at Great Wolf Lodge.
2016 Board Chair Tim Vaughn, general manager, Hilbish Ford, recapped the Chamber’s year. Some of those highlights included 92 new Chamber members, 40 ribbon cuttings, advocacy work for the NC Connect Bond resulting in capital improvements for Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and UNC-Charlotte, preparedness training for potential changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act, Transportation and Education Summits and multiple networking events.
Vaughn passed the gavel to 2017 Board Chair Joe Horton, president, Piedmont Asphalt Paving Company, who reviewed the Chamber’s upcoming year. In addition to the Chamber’s ongoing events and programs are Educator Work Perks - a teacher appreciation program, a new relocation/resource guide with a printed membership directory, a new quarterly business update – What’s Up, Cab Co? and work with the Cabarrus County Economic Development Corporation and Cabarrus County to get certified as a Certified Work Ready Community.
The Chamber’s Annual Awards recognize outstanding accomplishments, growth and community contributions by individuals and businesses. This year’s recipients were:

o Environmental Excellence and Sustainability Award, sponsored by S&D Coffee and Tea – Corning, Inc.
o Nonprofit of the Year, sponsored by DataChambers, LLC – Cabarrus County Education Foundation
o Chamber Ambassador of the Year, sponsored by DeAnna Ford, CPA – Warren Williams, TurningPoint Coaching for Business Performance
o Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award, sponsored by Duke Energy – Bill Dusch, Technologies Edge
o Cabarrus County Economic Development Corporation’s Product Development Excellence Award – The Nolim Group, CESI and CM Black Construction
o A special Friend of Business Award was given to Midland Mayor Kathy Kitts, recognizing her ongoing contribution to business and community in Midland and Cabarrus County.
