3rd Generation Spoon's BBQ Opens Food Truck, Brings Award-Winning Food to Cabarrus County & Beyond

Apr 04, 2017 05:10PM ● By Melanie Heisinger
Spoon's BBQ Food Truck can be seen at plenty of events around the Cabarrus County area and beyond. Based in Charlotte, NC, Spoon's has been around since 1963, the Food Truck itself opening in 2015.

Their staple, as seen in their name, is classic BBQ. They are known for their tasty, award-winning staples, such as pork BBQ. On their Facebook page they state, "We've been cooking the Whole Pig since 1963 in our same location in Charlotte, NC. Now we're expanding to the streets of Charlotte and surrounding areas."

The name "Spoon" is not just a clever take on eating, it's actually the family name. Talk about a perfect fit for the food industry!

According to the owner of the Food Truck, Matthew Spoon, "My grandfather, Bill Spoon, started Bill Spoon's BBQ in Charlotte in 1963. It is now owned by my cousin Steve, who has been a big help with getting the truck started. We both grew up in the family business."

Matthew is third generation in the Spoon's business. He owns and operates the truck, which entails everything from booking events to smoking meat, to serving customers on the truck. It's a busy lifestyle that he and his family have enjoyed for three generations.

When remembering favorite moments, Matthew said, "My most memorable memory has to be our first food truck rally in Rock Hill. It was our very first rally and we got hammered. I love a fast pace environment, but that was the fastest and hottest event we did. But we enjoyed every moment of it and still do it every year!"

BBQ Nachos

Customers visiting Spoon's can expect tasty, classic BBQ. Their most popular item on the menu is the scrumptious Pork BBQ. It's what they're most known for.

However, when it comes to newer menu options, their BBQ Nachos are a big hit with the community. This dish includes corn tortilla chips, white queso cheese, pork BBQ, bacon, jalapeños, and their special rib rub sprinkled on top. It's this dish that Matthew most recommends.

"We love to serve others!" Matthew said about Spoon's. "You can catch us at local food truck rallies. We'll be in Concord a lot in June and July for their Food truck rallies between Twenty-Six Acres Brewing Co. and Cabarrus Brewing Company."
