There were over 2,000 applicants for this grant, and the winners were chosen by popular vote.
The Advanced Manufacturing Lab is Phase 2 of KCS' plan, and the grant is helping it come to fruition. This lab will be used to help expand its Welding Program.
This is part of a larger initiative in the Kannapolis area where manufacturing jobs are beginning to boom. For those where working with their hands is preferred over sitting in a classroom, these classes help students thrive and make a living almost immediately after graduation.
According to a KCS press release, "One hundred percent (100%) of the students that have completed the KCS welding program are either fully employed or pursuing further industry credentials."
