Their ultimate mission? Too continue the tradition of bringing people together by producing tasty beer and providing a comfortable place for people to come together and enjoy it.
We got in touch with Jonathan Woodward, one of three owners at Commoners, to learn a little bit more about what they are all about.
Marty Jackson and Thomas Murray are the other two owners that help make Commoners what it is today. "We met through mutual friends at church," Woodward told us. "I was planning to open a brewpub when I met Marty and Thomas and they had been home brewing for a short time. Once we met we joined forces and started brewing together."
Eventually, the idea to serve food fell to the wayside and their focus instead went strictly to beer. "We hosted private parties, weddings and bbq’s until finally, with enough people saying “you could sale this,” we decided to do just that," said Woodward. "I was in sales and distribution for nearly 20 years with soft drinks and beer, so that’s kinda my offering to this business, and was born and raised in Rowan/Cabarrus County."
But don't worry if you get hungry while you're there, they have two great restaurants that do deliver to the taproom with just a call -- Copper Bar and Grill and Sabaidee, which has Thai and Sushi.
Jackson, one of the other owners, is a lighting contractor with management experience in restaurants, while Murray owned his own home improvement company. After 5 years of combining their unique skill-sets and plenty of home brewing, they built a business plan and started planning.
A "Cheers" vibe is definitely on the men for the environment they want to achieve.
Over New Year’s Eve, they hosted an elaborate and fun party to ring in 2018. According to Woodward, it was a blast. "For the first time we brought in a DJ, which created a dance party that we didn’t see coming. It ended up being a huge success and everyone has a great time."
But don't worry, they have live music every Friday night from 7 to 10pm. They also host a paint party the 1st Wednesday of every month.
"We will start the run club and yoga club back up in the spring, and hope to get some distribution started in the early spring," Woodward said of other events they are planning.
Stop by and grab a tasty brew today. Cheers!
