Workout for Charity: Concord's Burn Boot Camp to Host Fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association

Jun 15, 2018 01:34PM ● Published by Melanie Heisinger

Burn Boot Camp is a boutique fitness concept where like-minded women come together, build confidence, and inspire one another through fitness. In fact, we published an article last year highlighting what they do in "The Women of Burn."

This month, on June 16th, Burn is hosting an all-day fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Burn Boot Camp first partnered with the MDA 5 years ago when there was only a few Burn Boot Camps open. Now, it has become a nation-wide event.

"Burn Boot Camp was founded in Huntersville, and in the past, we had one centralized event in Charlotte where the children of the Charlotte chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association would come and emcee the event," Andrea Hartshorne, co-owner of Burn Boot Camp - Concord and Burn Boot Camp - Harrisburg, told us. "MDA partners with us and will send out some families to represent MDA at our local burns to help bring awareness and raise money for the foundation."

There are now 150 Burn Boot Camps open locations across the country and each location will participate to raise money for this important organization. The money from each location will be sent to their local chapter, in which children in the local community will be sent to the MDA Summer Camp.

The MDA Summer Camp is a place where children get to be surrounded by others just like them, but away from home and their primary caregivers. From swimming, to zip-lining and horseback riding to dancing under a disco ball and gaining valuable life skills, it is at these Summer Camps they children gain their independence, according to the MDA website. Each summer, thousands of kids attend life-changing, overnight camps around the U.S. — at no cost to their families, thanks to generous supporters.

Mike and Andrea Hartshorne are the owners of Burn Boot Camp - Concord and Burn Boot Camp - Harrisburg. They plan on bringing both communities together for a great event at Burn Boot Camp - Concord on June 16th at 9am. "Our staff will facilitate a workout and we will dedicate the workout to people with Muscular Dystrophy and to help bring awareness," Andrea said. "We will 'Be Their Muscle.'"

Anyone ages 13 years old and older can register at www.burnbootcamp.com/be-their-muscle to attend. The $20 registration fee goes directly to the local MDA chapter. The workout is from 9am-9:45am. Expect to see KD Urbelis, Fundraising Coordinator for the MDA, DJ Sherry Peele, an InBody Machine from Nutrishop, and other great vendors all participating in the event.

"The goal for the event is to have each gym raise $4,000 dollars and all proceeds go to the MDA," Andrea told us. "It costs $2,000 to send one child to camp."
