Now that summer is in full swing, so is the heat! With this heat wave taking over, all that can sound good is cold food and drinks. However, it can be easy to reach for the ice cream or soda instead of healthier options.

Or maybe you have been good about making smoothies, but they aren't the healthiest.

Luckily, it can be easy to put together a smoothie that is both healthy and tastes good. The
Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA) told us their formula for creating the perfect healthy smoothie (that's also tasty).

As a bonus, it's a great way to keep your health and fitness goals on track.

"We use this basic smoothie calculator as a tool/resource, but smoothies are great and really anything can go into them!" CHA's Program Coordinator
Meghan Charpentier told us.

BASIC SMOOTHIE EQUATION =

2 cups FRUIT or VEGETABLE (at least 2 different kinds) fresh or frozen
+ 1-2 cups LIQUID (milk, 100% juice, green tea, coconut milk, water)
+ 1-2 Tbsp. THICKENER (nut butter, yogurt, ice cubes, chia seeds, oats)
SWEETENER (optional) (honey, maple syrup, vanilla, herbs)

For some inspiration on tasty smoothies to try,
Charpentier provided us with two of her favorite recipes.

Green Monster Smoothie:

Orange Creamsicle Smoothie:

1 banana
1 cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt

Sip and enjoy! What are some of your favorite recipes? Let us know in the comments!
