This year marks the first year that Cougar Run Winery will be participating, and it's sure to be a good time. "We felt we needed to bring attention to the fact that since the Veteran's Services office (and food pantry) moved to The Old Creamery at Church and Peachtree, the food pantry is being utilized nearly 4 times as much as before," owner Deb Filkins told us. "Having had many family members in the military, and knowing first hand the sacrifices they made to serve our country, we don't believe they should EVER be hungry."
This pantry is stocked solely on donations from the community, and as a result, can run low quickly. Filkins and her husband Tom, who co-owns the winery, believe in community involvement and doing their part when they can. "If we see a need, we are likely to jump in," Filkins said.
Everyone is invited to join and is encouraged to bring their own cans. However, if someone isn't able to make it on the 11th, Cougar Run will be accepting donations any other day and will personally take the items to the Veteran's Services office.
"We hope to make this an annual event and honor the service that our veterans performed on our behalf," said Filkins.
