Pfeiffer earns national community engagement designation from the Carnegie Foundation Friday, December 19, 2008 (455 reads)
DECEMBER 19, 2008 – Its longstanding mission to prepare servant leaders by incorporating community engagement and service learning into the student experience earned Pfeiffer University recognition this week by the prestigious Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Pfeiffer was named among a national list of only 119 U.S. colleges and universities that received the Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation – and was the only private institution in the region to earn the honor. Pfeiffer earned the honor within the category “Curricular Engagement and Outreach & Partnerships,” according to Dr. Tracy Espy, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Pfeiffer.

| Cabarrus Family Medicine Wednesday, December 17, 2008 (280 reads)
Kevin E. Burroughs, MD, Director of Sports Medicine for the Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program and Sports Medicine Fellowship was an invited speaker at the 2008 North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians Winter Meeting. The conference brought approximately 500 physicians to Asheville, NC December 4-7, 2008. He provided a workshop on joint injection techniques, and presented “The Shoulder- Out of the Box” to the general assembly. Dr. Burroughs works at the Sports Medicine and Injury Center in Concord, NC.
The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, Inc (NCAFP) is a non-profit professional association headquartered in Raleigh that serves over 2,600 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students across the state. It is the largest medical specialty association in North Carolina and is a constituent chapter of the 94,000 member-strong American Academy of Family Physicians based in Leawood, Kansas.

| Ride the Santa Train Thursday, December 11, 2008 (515 reads)
The City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department is running the Winterland Express and Celebration of Lights through the 28th of December. The Celebration of Lights includes the soldiers that used to stand post on Town Lake, and the Winterland Express weaves through decorative displays.
Both are up and going Thursdays through Sundays from 5:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
On December 13 and 20, Santa will conduct the Winterland Express every 30 minutes from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Kannapolis: A Pictorial History will be available for sale this coming Monday at the Cabarrus County Public Library -- Kannapolis Branch.The Friends of the Library will be selling the book from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
This hardbound, coffee table book documents Kannapolis’ unique story beginning in the early 1900s and spanning through the advent of the NC Research Campus. The book will also be available at the Visitor's Center, Southern Charm, the Book Trader and City offices beginning on Monday. For more information, please visit the City’s Web site. The book will retail for $30.00.

Kannapolis, N.C., December 3, 2008—The City of Kannapolis and the Friends of the Library will hold a reception on Friday, December 12 at 7 p.m. to mark the arrival and official unveiling of Kannapolis: A Pictorial History.
The event is open to the public, and copies of the book will be available for purchase. The Friends of the Library will also sell the book on Monday, December 15 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Cabarrus County Public Library – Kannapolis Branch.

CONCORD- Sane' Deschel Davis was the 2008 City of Concord Christmas Card design winner. She was 6 years old at the time of the drawing and is now 7. Sane’ is in the 2nd grade at Wolf Meadow Elementary. Her parents are Stephanie Davis and Theron Davis.
Sane’ met Mayor Scott Padgett on Monday, December 1 at 3:30 p.m. with her parents and siblings. Sane’ was presented with a framed copy of the Christmas card she created while participating in the Parks & Recreation's Summer Playground program at Caldwell Park

| Football Fight of the Finest - Police vs. Fire Tuesday, December 02, 2008 (437 reads)
Concord Police and Fire and Life Safety Officers are planning a flag football game on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 10:00 am on the field at Concord High School. Admission is one toy to be donated to the Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital and will be delivered by the officers and fire fighters along with Santa as Christmas gifts on December 24th.
Please come support the officers of both the Police and Fire and Life Safety Departments as they battle on the gridiron.
