NEMC Announces New Name

CMC Northeast.jpgConcord - At exactly 12:01 am on July 1, the merger between Northeast Medical Center and Carolinas Healthcare system will be complete.  With that, comes a new name for the Concord Hospital, once known as Cabarrus Memeorial.  It will now be called CMC-Northeast.

Hayes Trying to Change Philip Morris’ Mind

Hayes.jpgConcord – US Congressman Robin Hayes, who represents the 8th district of North Carolina, is starting an initiative to change the minds of the corporate heads who decided, quite surprisingly, to close down the Philip Morris plant in Concord.  According to the company, the move is being made purely for financial reasons and that is what makes Hayes believe he can persuade them to reconsider.

Concord Philip Morris Plant to Close

Philip Morris.jpgConcord - Since 1983, the Philip Morris plant in Concord, which manufactures cigarrettes, has been a staple of the local economy, employiong thousands of workers and providing millions of tax dollars to the city.  That will all be soon come to an end as the company announced today that the Concord plant will be closing its doors in order to consolodate its operations with the plant in Richmond, VA and move some operations overseas.  The move will also result in the relocation or lay-offs of over 2,600 employees.
