Concord – Courtyard by Marriott is rolling out its new lobby and room design in Concord. This is the first Courtyard in the area featuring the “refreshing business” makeover, dubbed by company officials. The 128-room Courtyard Charlotte Concord is scheduled to open this Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Located at 7601 Scott Padgett Parkway , the hotel will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned and managed by SREE Hotels, LLC of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Kannapolis - Twenty-six schools across the United States will have some extra cash for class this year as Big Lots announced the winners of the 2009 Lots2Give video contest. Forty-six schools competed for a share of $80,000 in cash prizes, with John E. Ewing Middle School in Gaffney , SC winning the $10,000 grand prize. Locally, AL Brown High Scool in Kannapolis won $2500 as pat of the contest.
