On October 26, 2007 the Concord City Council held a public hearing in regarding having dragstips as a permitted use in the Speedway Public Interest District. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Council moved to amend the text to allow dragstrips in the public interest district zoning. This motion was approved unanimously. However, the issue of whehter or not Bruton Smith will close Lowe's Motor Speedway has yet to be resolved.

| Drag Strip Compromise Proposed Thursday, October 11, 2007 (963 reads)
Concord – In a move to seek a solution to issues surrounding the proposed drag strip, a majority of City Council voted at the end of their meeting Tuesday night to request that the Planning and Zoning Commission consider amending the Speedway PID to include drag strips as a permitted use; and if approved to recommend that the Speedway representatives work diligently with City staff during the plan review process to consider the impact on the surrounding area. The Council also voted to hold a special meeting to conduct a public hearing on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. to consider the recommendations of the Planning and Zoning Commission and the amendment.
