Kannapolis - It's been a hard year for John Cox. First he learned that Windstream would be cutting hundreds of jobs after it's merger with CT Communications. Next came the announcement that Philip Morris would be closing its doors and moving out of town by 2011. The past two months have consisted of many sleepless hours and long days negotiating with Bruton Smith to keep Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord.
Now, it seems all that hard work and facing of adversity have paid off. Today, the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce announced that Cox has agreed to a deal that will keep him as the top dog in the Cabarrus business community for another five years. It's a contract that borders around seven figures total worth, including incentives and benefits.
Most agree business is booming in Cabarrus County. So, who is behind it all? Concord - Dr. Barry Shepherd has been named as the Superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools. Dr. Harold Winkler, current Superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools, plans to retire February 1, 2008. At a special press conference this morning, the Board of Education made a public announcement that Dr. Shepherd will be coming to Cabarrus County Schools as the Superintendent on January 22, 2008.
