CONCORD – Law Enforcement Officers from Concord and Cabarrus County will brighten the lives of more than 50 deserving children again this year with its “Shop with a Cop” event.
On December 20th beginning at 8:00 am, the children will gather at the Concord Boys and Girls Club for breakfast. Each child will be introduced to their “Officer Buddy” and will then participate in a police car caravan to Super Kmart on Highway 29. The officers will assist the children in picking out an assortment of clothes, personal items and toys. After returning to the Boys and Girls club, the day will conclude with lunch and a visit from Santa Claus.

The City of Concord will officially open Fire Station Number 9 on Wednesday, December 17th at 3:00 p.m. This ceremony and celebration is open to the public with refreshments served after the ceremony. Tours of the facility will be available with Fire and Life Safety Staff. The ceremony will include brief remarks from the Mayor and Officers with the Fire Department. After the comments, all attendees will participate in the official housing of the fire equipment that has been assigned to the new station.

As we come to the close of 2008, we wanted to bring you a recap of where the project is and what's in store for 2009. It is a very exciting time at High Rock Raceway.
We are about to close on our loan and begin construction. We have received 94% signed race townhome contracts out of the 98 we mailed to our reservation holders. We are delighted – and our lender is delighted – with this result. We anticipate closing our loan in December.

As a result of the gradual recovery of our water supplies we are able to continue to allow customers an additional day of outdoor residential landscape irrigation on Tuesdays, until further notice. While lake and stream flows are at or near normal, we will continue to monitor water levels in the event they fall below accepted levels. The improvements give us comfort in allowing additional outdoor water use for customers considering to reestablish their lawns or install new plants.
Therefore, water use restrictions for customers of Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, Landis and Mount Pleasant are amended effective immediately. These restrictions apply to the use of water sold by these municipalities.

December 2, 2008 – The community is invited to an open house of the new Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center, located on the corner of Corban Avenue and Church Street in Concord. Public tours will be provided of this new building including the 911 Center, Emergency Operations, Magistrate’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, booking center and video visitation area. The public can drop in during the open house between 4 and 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 10.
