Charlotte, N.C. (March 17, 2009) – Cogdell Spencer Inc. (NYSE: CSA) presented a gift of $50,000 to support the Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast Breast Health Program during the NorthEast Foundation’s Annual Meeting held on the CMC-NorthEast Campus on Monday, March 16.
The CMC-NorthEast Breast Health Program is the focus of a $5.5 million three-year community campaign launched by NorthEast Foundation to create a new Breast Health Center, to purchase digital mammography equipment and a mobile mammography van, and to support a community outreach program designed to increase the percentage of women now scheduling annual mammograms. Only 36% of women in Cabarrus County have been scheduling mammograms compared to the national average of 66%.
President and Chief Executive Officer Frank Spencer said, “Our organization recognizes the importance of this campaign. Since one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, early detection is critical to those who will have breast cancer. Lives can be saved, and we’re pleased to provide support for such a worthy cause.”
In addition to the gift, Cogdell Spencer Founder and Chairman Jim Cogdell presented a commemorative Tiffany clock to CMC-NorthEast President Mark Nantz. “We wanted to acknowledge our long-term relationship with CMC-NorthEast,” said Cogdell. Cogdell Spencer has provided over $575,000 to CMC-NorthEast over the Company’s 14 year relationship with the healthcare system.
“Particularly in these tough economic times, we understand the importance of supporting improved healthcare in the communities we serve,” said Spencer. “Our commitment to these efforts has never waivered.”
