Kannapolis, N.C., March 27, 2009—The City of Kannapolis is seeking applications from non-profits with programs that would qualify for its 2009-2010 Community Development Block Grant fund allocation.
The deadline for submitting applications is April 17 at 5 p.m.
Funds are designated for activities that benefit low and moderate income residents in the city, and typically include programs that provide housing, child care, employment services, health services, drug abuse prevention, mental health services and education programs.
“We use these funds to help support non-profits that provide services that fit within the City’s and HUD’s mission,” said Director of Business & Community Affairs Irene Sacks. “These groups provide important services, from delivering hot meals to homebound residents to providing housing assistance to helping battle literacy issues in our community.”
Applications will be reviewed by the Community Development Commission and by City staff. The maximum grant amount is $5,000. The City is allowing organizations to apply for an additional $10,000 supplemental grant which will be awarded to up to two organizations to help address the community’s needs during the economic downturn. This year the total grant allocation is estimated at $57,000.
