Kannapolis Hires New Finance Director

Kannapolis, N.C., August 17, 2010—The City of Kannapolis has hired Eric Davis as its new Finance Director. Davis, who most recently served as Town Manager for Mt. Holly and was previously the Town Manager of China Grove, will begin work on Friday, August 13.

“Eric’s broad experience in municipal government will be an asset for Kannapolis,” said Mike Legg, Kannapolis City Manager. “He truly understands the needs and daily operations of other departments and his creativity will be a great resource for our department heads. We are excited to have him join our team.”

Davis has 18 years of experience in public administration, all of it in North Carolina. His past employment has primarily been in the role of a town manager. However, in those communities he has had daily oversight of financial matters which has given him the skill set necessary to lead a municipal finance department. Davis has deep experience in budgeting, forecasting, and securing loans for capital projects.

“I am very much looking forward to working in Kannapolis,” said Davis. “Mike Shinn and his staff have done a tremendous job over the last 25 years, and I am eager to start the next era of the City’s Finance Department.”

Davis was selected after an extensive search process that yielded more than 100 applicants and resulted in seven finalists for the position. Davis will earn an annual salary of $88,520.

Davis holds both a Master’s in Public Administration and a B.S in Political Science from Appalachian State University. He is also a graduate of the Public Executive Leadership Academy at the UNC School of Government.
