Sep 12, 2016 04:02PM ● By Melanie Heisinger

Jose Martinez makes his MLB debut after 10 years in the Minor Leagues.

Outfielder Jose Martinez made his Major League debut with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday after 10 seasons in the Minor Leagues, becoming the 93rd player to go from Kannapolis to the Major Leagues since the team’s inception in 1995. He is the 69th Intimidators player to reach the big leagues since the team became the Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox in 2001.

Martinez, 28, pinch-hit for St. Louis against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his MLB debut. He played for Kannapolis in 2008, batting .306 (44-144) in 39 games.  The outfielder and first baseman reached Triple-A Omaha as a member of the Kansas City Royals system in 2015, hitting .384 (131-341) to win the Pacific Coast League batting title.  The Royals traded Martinez to St. Louis on May 25, 2016, where he appeared in 87 games for the Memphis Redbirds before earning a promotion to the Major Leagues on Tuesday following the conclusion of the Minor League season.

Martinez is the eighth former Intimidators player to reach the Major Leagues this season, joining Chris Devenski (who played for Kannapolis in 2012 and made his MLB debut with Houston), Kevan Smith (2012/White Sox), J.B. Wendelken (2013/Oakland) Jason Coats (2013/White Sox), Tyler Danish (2013-14/White Sox), Tim Anderson (2013/White Sox), and Omar Narvaez (2014/White Sox).
