In early October, 2017, Kannapolis City Schools (KCS) was one of 40 districts nationally to qualify for State Farm Insurance's Neighborhood Assist grant. The grant is $25,000 and will go towards creating an Advanced Manufacturing Lab.

There were over 2,000 applicants for this grant, and the winners were chosen by popular vote.

Advanced Manufacturing Lab is Phase 2 of KCS' plan, and the grant is helping it come to fruition. This lab will be used to help expand its Welding Program.

This is part of a larger initiative in the Kannapolis area where manufacturing jobs are beginning to boom. For those where working with their hands is preferred over sitting in a classroom, these classes help students thrive and make a living almost immediately after graduation.

According to a
KCS press release, "One hundred percent (100%) of the students that have completed the KCS welding program are either fully employed or pursuing further industry credentials."

Congratulations, KCS!
