Oct 01, 2018 08:08PM ● By Melanie Heisinger
The weather is finally starting to get cooler, the leaves are changing, and pumpkin spice is everywhere. After Hurricane Florence, it's a relief that fall is here and our energy can be focused on recovery and excitement for the holiday season.

Cabarrus County really knows how to get into the Halloween spirit! From local hayrides to spooky tours, we put together some of our favorite events happening in the area.

Read on to find out about local-area pumpkin patches and corn mazes that would be great to visit. Also, included are some exciting upcoming events that you won't want to miss, sponsored by the Committee to Elect Juanita Boger-Allen Judge and the Committee to Elect Jim Demay District Court Judge.

Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes & Fall Events

Looking to pick your own pumpkin this year? Or maybe you've finally mustered up the courage to head to a haunted house? Have no fear, we've compiled it all here for you.

The Harris Farm

Known for its "Scary Dairy Haunted Walking Trail," the Harris Farm in Harrisburg is no longer haunted. Last year marked its final Scary Dairy year. However, all props and costumes are for sale.

As stated on their website, "From 2007-2017 the farm transformed into "Scary Dairy" hosting a haunted hayride and in the later years a haunted walking trail. After 10 fun and thrilling years the ghosts and goblins have left the property and the Harris family can't be thankful enough to all the visitors and support they had. "We are sad to disappoint those that made it an annual tradition to come visit or work with us. We enjoyed putting on the family fun event in the fall for 10 years, but all good things have to come to an end. Everyone is always welcome to visit our farm, it just won't be scary anymore," says farmer Joe Harris who turned 70 this year."

2018 marks Riverbend Farm's 27th year as a Pumpkin Patch. The farm grows between 20 to 25 acres of pumpkins each year, with a fun playground on site as well.

Their fields display a choice of different varieties of pumpkins and gourds for you to choose from, with 4 large wagons that go to and from the fields on the weekends for optimum unlimited pumpkin-picking-time.

Visit them at 12150 McManus Road, Midland, NC 28107. For more information about hours and pricing, you can visit their website

Carrigan Farms

At Carrigan Farms, they grow tens of thousands of pumpkins every year. Each and every hayride includes a trip to the pumpkin patch, where kids of all ages (adults too!) each pick their very own pumpkin. Pumpkins range in size from 2-20 pounds +/-, so everyone can find their size.

On select October nights, Carrigan Farms transforms their 170 acre farm into the scariest haunted trail in the region. If you are looking for a new and out of the ordinary way to get your heart pumping and adrenaline rushing this October, Scarrigan Farms is the place for you.

This is not a trail for kids. If you’re under 12 come back when you’re old enough. "If someone hasn’t peed in their pants by the end of the night we know we haven’t done our job," their website warns. Opening day for Scarrigan Farms is October 5th.

Visit the farm at 1261 Oak Ridge Farm Highway, Mooresville, NC 28115 or their website to learn more.
