If left untreated, this can cause you to develop redness, itching, and even peeling in severe cases. Fortunately, you can avoid this by using a daily moisturizer, which will trap water within the skin and slow the drying process. Moisturizing can improve skin texture as well.

Using a different daily skin cleanser is also an effective tip for protecting your skin in cold weather. The purpose of many skin cleansers and washes is to strip the skin of any dirt, grime, and oil that may be clogging your pores. However, in doing so, these products also remove excess moisture. For this reason, it’s recommended that you switch to something a bit gentler in the wintertime. This will reduce the amount of hydration you lose with washes and increase your skin’s overall durability.

Humidifying your home environment can help as well. Though you can’t control the weather outside, you can adjust your indoor settings to make them a bit healthier for your skin. Running a humidifier or two is one effective way to do this. By putting more moisture into the air, you’re less likely to lose water from your skin.

Many people choose to slack on their sunscreen in the winter, often thinking the sun isn’t directly shining on them as much. However, this simply isn’t true. In fact, the sun’s rays can be even more harmful to the skin in the winter since they reflect off of any snow on the ground. As such, maintaining your habit of wearing sunscreen is the key to preventing skin damage later in life.
